Initials Task ~ 3D Model



  I found this three-dimensional modelling really enjoyable and helpful in extension to previous skills learnt from the 2.5d modelling task. It was good to have some of my own freedom in designing the letters for my initials and furthermore synthesizing that into a digital, 3d form.  









Here, you can easily see the transitions between each letters from the 'E' to the 'J' to the 'W'

By amalgamating previously acquired skills in folding techniques, with experimentative avenues of light and form, I was able to create quite an interesting shadow effect, this is seen with the very linear horizontal planes, that make up the ceiling, producing a shadow that seems to dance on the vertical plane. This is an effect that would be further emphasised in the real world with the shifting of the sun, thus altering the interiors perspective.

Model making and Further Lighting Experimentation

I found this model making task very useful in being able to communicate my idea about contrast of light and dark by using materials like balsa and baking paper as well as photographing my work in black and white to further enhance the contrast (This model is in 1:50 scale). This was also a good model to experiment with on Photoshop because, similar to the last model, I was able to see the model as a real life structure. I wanted to utilise quite natural materials for my rendering as this is what I feel i am most connected to.

Final Blog Submission ~ 'Contrast'

'CONT RAST ' Written Statement This project, titled ‘Contrast’, explores the manners in which light behaves in response to forms, textures and materials and how this may shift throughout a daily cycle via both artificial and natural light sources. In doing this, I wanted to highlight a ‘contrast’ between bright and dark and therefore communicate the relationship between lighting and shadows, whilst also maintaining focus on an ideal working space design, where a sense of creativity is not only encouraged, but maximised. I was able to accomplish my concept through experimentation of forms and openings, use of black and white photography to accentuate differentiation, as well as creating elevated and open spaces for the purpose of freedom and nonchalance in inventiveness.
